Nepalis are well known to hog the microphone and everyone wants to say something on stage. Programs are getting boring compared to before since they follow the same routine of 1 hour speech to begin, then 5-6 cultural programs, then thank you speech for another 1 hour then inviting every one of the performers and 10 chief guests onto stage to thank them. I have stopped going to Nepali functions for few years because of this trend.

Ditto...i pay for nepali programs entry fee just for their food during dashain tihar..I am single guy and cant cook all authenticate nepali food..so i go there pay up..eat food and get out..
everytime it is same kind of hosting same person every year.....the trophy distribution..then kids fashion show..then some cultural dance numbers and some non cultural ones....recognize some body and at the end of the day DJ party which is not that appealing any way...
In summer its always picnic at exact same spot with exact same activities..bingo...spoon race and all..its like living whole scenario again and again..

I have not been to nepali programs even for their food in last 2 years.....only because after few generic question..the question tht gets in my nerver is " Bhai ko status k ho"...I mostly say single and leave..not h1b or GC or opt or F1

It's been about 20 years in US and I have seen this happening since year 10. This is nothing new.
Also, I wouldn't call it a बिकृति. It's just an Individual's want to be recognized in a foreign country, sometimes at the cost of others.

Well, I might have gone to few of this programs (may be 2 at most except those in university days) and they are exactly like some of you explained. I was frustrated by those 'bhasans' in Maha jodi program this year. However, they are not to be avoided but rather improved. As communities are growing this sorts of program makes people meet and make friends. I am not much concerned about those who know everything in US but those who have limited language ability, children, amma and bua's who would enjoy meeting people and see changing Nepali society. Also, individuals coming from various walks of life who do not have friends like those of students.
