Friends, Coming Friday's Pro-democracy Rally in NY is, in every sense, Diaspora's equivalent of "Citizen's Movement for Democracy and Peace" in Nepal. What is "Citizen's Movement for Democracy and Peace" ? It is people's saying, "Enough is enough". It's saying, "Enough with King's insuppressible greed for power, enough with political parties' impotency, enough with Maoists' abuse of legitimate political cause to promote anachronistic ideology and violence, and enough with the freaking eternal quagmire they are in." The most important of all, perhaps, it is also saying, "Enough with our own cynicism, apathy and passiveness". Let's take initiative on our own to let ourselves, political powers and the whole world know what we want and how we want, once for all. Let's speak up. That's what "Citizen's movement for democracy and peace" is all about. And damn. It's working. It's already showing its affects everywhere. Common people, through their participation and display to the leaders, poets and artists kind of love and respect never seen before, and the movement, through it's determination to spread it throughout the country no matter what, has already established itself as an ad hoc political leadership until political parties reform enough to reclaim people's trust and thereby popular political leadership to the movement for Loktantra. Let's show up at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, NY on this Friday to let ourselves and the whole world know our longing for democracy and peace and to make a small but glorious history of how we took time to show our respect and solidarity to activists, professionals, poets, artists and common people rising Nepal ko basti basti baata, gaaun gaaun baata. See you all who are close enough to make it to Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, NYC, 12:00 noon, Friday 16th September 2005. Nepe - http://www.nyrally.org/ - http://samudaya.org/dissent/ Hand of a poet, who probably made a world history by making people loving to buy tickets to listen to his revolutionary poems in Kathmandu !

well i dun really belong in this thread but just need to get smthing off me chest so ppl dun mind hai :oD highfly bro nothing against u... tara just for the sake of lettn out..hehe..well just wanted to say me opinion(im not into debates hai so dun waste ur time and try re kya ;oP) "Epe Nepe Nepe, did I tell you that you are really funny. Showing courage. MAN r u on crack???Here in US. Showing courage. U r just great. ANd man about cowardiness, people are not dumb to followan opportunist, selfcentred pigs. " well just wanted to say, well i know u all got some thing going on with u all here...but disregarding that...well dunno if u thot about it...but it does seem like the guys here who are talkn about it..does plan to go back to Nepal one time or another when time is right and continue wat they started...so giving them the benefit of the doubt(not wrong in giving benefit of the doubt is it?) well i do agree that it does take Courage to do those things...esp wat Poonte bro did :oD, i mean duh!!.. we know what happens in Nepal, a life is just worth some few thousand ruppees(not just in in nepal ;oP)well dunno how many thousands of ppl have gone missing and their family still askin the authority about them. Well dun ask me to prove such things, go figure out urself ;oP. So any person doing all these, their fotos are being shown, their names and other infos so in some ways theres a lot of risk involved esp since they are going against the most powerful person in Nepal. So doesnt that take courage?i dun think i could have done what these ppl have done(not that i be interested, politics is not me cup of tea :oD)..at least they are doing wat they can in US when they are there.. Like u said, u are keepin it real but just cos u r keepin it real, wats real to u might not mean the same to another, well im just glad at least they are doing smthings tho it doesnt mean anything to most other ppl. but tryn does mean a lot (to me ;o)...so nice to see ppl tryn :oD )...and well politics as we know is a lot of talk and sweet words(and from nepals history, do we still have confidence in the politicians?) but ironically smtimes all we can do is GIVE WORDS!yap bloody ironies...wat to do?we are humans in the end..we cant do everything can we? and of cos its always better to be skeptic(make us not expect too much and save us from being hurt when our expectation aint reached. When does an expectation get reached anyways?hehe)and its nice to see skeptics around cos that means, our ppl have learnt a bit from the past(hopefully we have!!cos smtimes i think we have learnt nothing!!everything repeating again wahahahah ) it will just take sweet words this time. but smtimes... well not that im expecting too much from the ppl who post here...(i barely do read, esp since me nepali sucks!!well i did try a bit guess due to incapability, lets not blame the time ;oP hehe..guess i couldnt understand..so i gave up...for now ;oP...hopefully i get better in me nepali) smtimes seeing pics like this...well it does in some ways give me hope that there is hope for our country. well it might be a clown show to most and maybe the fact is.. it is(lets go to extreme negative hehe) but well it sure does make me feel positive about our country..the future...so u know alikiti got agitated when u said smthing about 'courage' hehe..so lettn it out :oD. its not u...but u do know hoina...when a fire is just starting..just cos its takin so long to lite up...we get frustrated and the 'dampeners' loses their patience and starts takin off the stick of woods and shrubs and tries to rearrange it and try to lite it up again, in the end that just stops the fire from starting and burning. Esp if the woods are a bit damp of cos its takes a while to burn. yap we do get frustrated when someone says dun touch it...it will burn soon...it wil burn soon...we get wakka dikka hearing the same old 'empty' words...esp in the cold night when we are freezing, esp when we think the person telln us to wait for it...seems to not be freezing like us. so get me drift?cos i dunno wat im typing about wahahaha....i mean well wat we cant do, well we cant expect others to do it can we?if they are doing smthing let them do it...a bit of benefit of the doubt pls ;o)...esp if wat they are doing aint doing anything to u physically hehe...mentally?well if ur mentally sick then its a diff thing ;oP hehe...who knows wat might happen ;o)...so just like ur keepin it real...let them keep it real for them and well in time u will know if ur doubts about them were right or wrong...cos now wat can we do but wait and see wat our king will do?he said give him 3 yrs...not like its up to us to give him that time(or is it?are we that united?) but all we can do is wait and see.... and just cos u have doubts over some person here ...well just hoping u wont let that doubt dampen the spirit of another that has hope and doing smthing to. cos well appreciation does really help one work harder :oD...and of cos i do appreciate u tryn to make sure ppl here are not just sprouting empty words hehe...we heard...seen and experienced enuf havent we?hehe well time will tell if we will hear more :oS.... till then....JAI NEPAL!!:oD...i might be useless but nepali ta still hu hai!!u cant deny me re kya!!;oP hehe have a good day and JAI NEPAL!!:oD (ps poonte bro whos idea was that about the 'king hat' etc wahahaha...it cracked me up!!in a nice way....wish i could be there to see it..but photos speaks a thousand word they say..and the placard was even wahahahaha....im speechless :O:Ohehe*gone*)

Its really hard for you to digest that am I presenting the facts in the brute and crude manner. I think I should act like a heard of sheep and be not critical to please you. WHich point I mentioned did not please you? Show the links. I will try to rationale each and every stance. anonomous, When are they going back?? THats the main point. R they waitng for Mao to come to power and join the maoists' govt??? Everytime these rallys are organozed some opportunist pig has taken advantage. Last time it was Sujata Koirala, now Murari Raj Sharma. Peace

I have been asking people for long time why do we need monarchy system? No one has answer me so far???people say king brings so called peace but peace on what cost making everyone as his slave??.peace in what cost we living like animals and thinking we are not better then other human being??..peace in what cost while he appoints known looters and killer and we can?t say anything about him?? If peace is install with fear then what is difference between Mao and monarchy both keep peace with fear,,,,,,,,, I don?t want to list monarchy laundry list cause I believe monarchy system defective and degrade us but I have to ask to those who are fast to point the figure to elected people who take bribe and miss management people fund???where is your criticism when king goes and buys 5 cars with in 2 years using 220 millions rupees?.where is your outrage when king increases his budget more then 300% after assuming power ???. The reason I dun talk about politicians that much because if we want we have power to vote out them out and we can say anything and ask anything but where is that right to us with monarch.. I have nothing to say if you believe king family is better then all other Nepali families?.but when I and other those who believe we and king family are the same as other then why should one family should have right over our life and country?. If you believe Nepal belongs you and me then why shouldn?t you and I have right to choose head of state?..When we get that choice you have your right to vote the king as president if you feel he is the best man to lead us and I have my choice to vote whoever I want to vote??? REPULICAN DEMOCRACY JINADABAD....... RAJ TANTRA MURDABAD

anti, It is said a person who is at sleep could be woken up but the one who is pretending to be asleep could not be woken up. The case with you is the same. Who is saying we need monarchy? But the fact is we have monarchy. Why do you blind fold on the fact that removing monarchy will cost lotta bloodshed? You know well and everbody knows well, peace could be reached thriough comprimise and nothing else.

highfly I was blind before cause I used to think the way very few people think now?.If we look the history, monarchy has been killing people to be in power??they killed in 17 sal they killed in 25 sal they killed in 36 sal and they killed 46 sal and now too they are killing innocent people in the name of terrorist ??.It was the govt who said there fewer then 5 thousand terrorists but by now more 11000 people have been dead and we still have Maoist all over the country Monarchy system did nothing besides making us beggars and it would do nothing besides making us terrorist?Only monarchy system was and is responsible to create Mao problem and I am ready sacrifice monarchy system to have lasting peace and multiparty democracy with presidential system?. There is right and wrong way to compromise??if Ranas come and say they would restore peace if we let then have Rana rule like before? I guess you say no?.if bahun come and tells he would restore peace if we officially accept castism I guess you would say no for that too?..same way I believe there is room for monarchy system in 21st century??..if we accept monarchy system then why shouldn?t we accept rana only family. Would you accept Maoist if they say they would keep peace but they want to Nepal as communist sate with one party rule? There is no place for monarchy system in My Nepal gadtantra jinadabad mao and raj tantra murdabad

I predict the effectiveness of this rally to be the same or less than the one that was held in DC few months back. If I were to categorize the people who joined the protest, I would come up with 3 of them: 1) The Maoists protesting in the name of democratic republic, whose only short-run aim is to bring the King down no matter how as he has been their biggest obstacle before their goal to make Nepal a communist state after may be getting the Nepalese population down by few thousands or millions, and that too if their thirst for blood is quenched. 2) The corrupt, opportunist ?would like to be? politicians, or ex-politicians or ex-government representatives post 1990, who again see King as their biggest obstacle to their spree of hoarding country?s money and selling it to India. 3) And then there are few who really view King as an obstacle to the democratic progress and development of Nepal and would genuinely want to see a change for the betterment of the country and not personal. Now the problem is, the people from Group 2 have connections and ability to deceive and mis-guide and can amass few hundred Nepalese ?bhedas? easily in US to protest for democracy in Nepal with their hidden self interest. Then comes along, people from Group 1, with hidden agenda of their own but find democracy in Nepal and King the obstacle, as a common denominator with Group 2 to team up. These two different groups are ready to backstab each other if their common denominator is ever to be achieved, as their self-interests and hidden agenda vary. However, they manage to work together at least at the basic level. And Group 3, no one gives a shit about them. Group 1 and Group 2, know that what Group 3 wants, a genuine democracy in Nepal, is not possible as long as their own existence remains. And these people from Group 3 are less influential in such protests and have few ?bhedas? who follow them because people who have belief in them and share the same view believe that to bring a real change in Nepal, one should be in Nepal holding such protest and choose to rather watch College Football on TV than to bake themselves in the sun of by celebrating ?Ghai-Jatara? or an early ?Halloween? in USA.

Viewing your grouping I don?t come under 1 or 2?..However I have no problem be friend with group one or two if they believe in people power means if they are agree to stand in election and accept what ever people decide??.In fact I have no problem accept anyone as head of state whoever gets people vote and that person could be ex king gyne or ex cp paras or ex killer baburam prachanda or ex looters politicians or anyone one Nepali who gets majority to of vote. I might be alone but I would still oppose monarchy system cause I believe in equal right and I believe country belongs to People not its rulers and only people have right to give that right to ruler via vote

anti, As I said before its not possible to wake up person who is pretending to be asleep. You are talking as if we had no king and some dude just took over power and started calling himself king. The things you are talking about, rationalize it. Show the feasiblity. How the democratic republic is possible? How will you remove the king? So you want the civil war to continue. Everybody with sane brain knows it that the peace will come only through comprimise. The king will never give up crown. You can only dream about it. But if you really want to work for peace, every party involved should work on the negotiated settlement. I am tired of reapeating the same thing over and over again. If you have a sane brain give a thaught to underlying issues. Its not whom you want to be in power and whom I want to be in power. Its about Nepal as a whole. The things that will bring peace and prosperity to our country. We gotta work on the framework first. Then convince with its action plan. Then rest all of all will support. Its not gonna work without convincing people that removal of king will not bring maoists or the same old corrupt polticians in the power. Corrupt polticians were killing poor. King is doing the same. Maos will just kill every opponent. So why people give up life or fight for these people. All I am saying is lets bring all in the same boat for the sustainable peace. Peace Tired and Frustated HF

Well highfly I have been saying to you and others I am not politician and I don?t have all the answers of the problem?..If I could forecast about future I would be the greatest person of the world??..I am just an ordinary person who believe that every one is equal no one is above then anyone??I believe our collective power makes some one to lead us. I believe we people should use that power so we could say that person represent me ( if he/she is my choice ) or represent us if majority people choose that person??..I would never accepted none elected as my leader?????.. You seem very smart and intelligent. I don?t how what future would bring. I don?t know how many people have to loose their levies I wish I could know and could stop it??. Yes I know king wouldn?t give up power?.if everyone who give up power there wouldn?t be killing,,,,,,if Kintipure king had given up when prtitivi attackd, lots of people wouldn?t have to lose life and who live didn?t have to lose their noses and ears???.. If UK had given up India easily lost of Indian wouldn?t have died during independence war??.if Rana had given power easily there would be Sahids??and lost of people didn?t have to be dead so now we could say Rana rule was dark period of Nepal??.. We can?t keep immoral system which based in discrimination saying it saves life??if that case slavery would never have gone if that case sati partha would have never abolished??.Immoral system in long term damaged us more ??.. Freedom is birthright so no one has right to take it elected or none elected??.
