Nepalese in the other States are more subtle and well organized with their local Nepalese communities. IF not by meeting often, they tried to keep in touch with thier frined and other Nepalese by phones. However, Nepalse in California and the Bay area are just the opposite. In the first place, it is hard to recognize Nepalese in the Bay area by face. They either look like Chinese or Maxican or Indian. Just look at our faces, no body can guess if you are from Nepal. Even if I meet them by chance, they avoid further conversation for ever. It's not like I am new here in the bay area and needed their help. It is just about keeping our community together-- by exchenging a few good talks. I guess, its time to get back with Nepalese. We could be help to each other. Well, if you guys live in the bay area, just reply to this message. We need to be with our people as much as we are with others. What do you say? GS

Thats why sometime i don't want to see that type of nepali face. so guys, you are lucky you don't have to deal with theses kind of people

I lived in SF Bay area for many years and made great friends. If you cannot make friends does not make all Nepali bad. Obiviously there are lots of Nepali in the bay area and you will have to learn how to make friends.

Hey yonepali what are you talking about, we nepali in bay are also cool and united and get togeter,If you have time come tonight and joind dashain party .Dashain is the biggest festival of Nepali Hindus. Nepal being an agricultural country, Nepalis get to take a break during the month of Aswin and Kartik when the ropai is done and the fields are covered with golden rice plants. For fifteen days there are gatherings around various temples, celebrations include high swinging swings and animal sacrifices. Dashain actually is not only Hindu festival in Nepal but probably because of its timing it is a national period of celebration and thus is celebrated by Nepalis of all caste and creed throughout the country. We have come so far away from home but still, the golden memories of Dashain bring smiles to us. To honor such a festival and the spirits of being Nepalis, NANC and Annapurna Lion’s Club of Berkeley have collaborated to present to you this year’s Dashain celebration. We invite you all to participate in our TIKA, enjoy the traditional Dashain delicacies brought to you by Taste of the Himalayas, Berkeley, and enjoy the dance competition. We would appreciate if you would attend dressed in Dashain colors (red) and traditional Nepali costumes. Details are as follows: When? October 7, 2006 Saturday Where? Veterans Hall 6401 stockton Ave El Cerrito, Ca 94806 Time? Do not miss this too Nabin Bhattarai is coming to town! November 11 Laney College 5pm onwards.

Thanks for your response-some genuine some not. We know that our lives in the US is busy. I am buys too with a full time job and a part-time law school. What else can be BUSY than this. But I stil want to hangout with Nepalese some time during weekends. Right? I can make my time to meet them. It's not like that I am new here. I have been living here more than 5 years and of course I have friends from other walks of life. Obviously, I would feel great to hangout the and talk in with Nepalese as speaking Nepali. People say that there are plenty of nepalese living in the bay area, but for me none. For instance, somebody had asked me to find a person who can work as a front desk receptionist in San Francisco. I talked to my friends and asked them if they knew any. No body knew any. My feel was to find a Nepalese and hook him/her up with the easy and well paying job. This job might still be available if you live in san Francisco and have a social security. Nothing else is needed. So let me, I can check it out.

i was expecting people from all walk of life yesterday..but not much gathering, especially IT walas.....by the way I happeped to stop in one of nepali family's apartment few weeks ago..and asked them how is Dashain here?...it will be my first time so i m excited..r u guys coming? then he said "pahila ek choti gaiyo tes pachi gaiyeko chaina..khasai ke huncha ra?" if all of us say "khasai ke huncha ra?" then there wont be any progress in nepali community here in bay area...like Mani Nepali jee's bhasan "hami haruley bhaichara ko bikas garnu cha......" (in a similar tone of Madhav Kumar Nepal)... that will remain only in words....

Not only in california, this happens everywhere else. Some of nepali ppl don't want to get to know their own kind. This is normal. I have heard ppl saying," Hey! let's not go to that gas station. A nepali guy works there. If we go there, he will try to start a conversation wit us."

Maybe because Nepalis like to compare themselves with each other. Happens way too much. Falana le ghar kinyo re, dhiskana le yo business gardaicha re, yesle yetti kamaucha re, tyesle tyetti padheko cha re.... yadda yadda yadda. I guess this happens in all ethnic communities, but for us Nepalis, seems like it happens more with us. I love hanging out with Nepalis, but this compare-garne-bani chahi patakkai man pardaina. This could be one of the reasons why it is what it is in Bay Area.
