We were looking for apartment for one of our fren in SFO who recently came from nepal. We found a very nice quite, sunny, with patio and big garden a large single bedroom apartment  for $1300 but with old carpet. We didn't realize how bad the carpet was until they moved in. We did the steam cleaning and all but still it doesn't look good as its too old ( may be clean by now).

But, landlord is not ready to replace the carpet on request and nothing had been said int he lease too ( he is a nice old man though may be its just few unit personally managed apartment so ). He is ready to release the lease if we are not happy. Also they are planning to stay there at least for 2 yrs or more as everything is best about that place.

So, Do you guys think it's a good idea to replace by new carpet  by ourself??? Or is there any better other option then that ? (Bedroom carpet is now clean and looks good  and is acceptable after cleaning )

If you suggest to buy new carpet which one whould be best to buy and yes affordable too ??

Suggestions are highly appreciated !

Thanks

Buy new carpets and talk to the landlord if he could deduct the reasonable amount of money from the rent . If that  dosen't work buy accent rugs. Rooms will look better with them scattered around..  I don't know how it might help but give it a try.

If the rooms are really too good to leave and you are going to stay there for next two years, the I think it is worth changing the carpet. However I have no clue about the price though.

Why don't you check home depot sites or you can go to the store.
