The goal of ANMN in organzing Nepali concerts is not solely for the

Bond ji, I understand your plight however, we did not come up with this price out of nowhere.
First of all, ANMN is not organizing this for any kind of profit. Our main goal is to provide pure entertainment to the Nepali community. Secondly, in order to make an event happen, we have to consider innumerable factors such as the COST of the auditorium, transportation, sound system, accommodation for the artistes. And thirdly, these kinds of concerts do not get organized that frequently hence it is our benefit to make the most out of these rare entertainment programs that are brought to MN. Besides, these artistes have come all the way from Nepal and I think as a community, the least we can do is “support” them. We have also provided incentives such as RSVP via phone or email will get you a ticket at the door for $17.50. With Student Discount it’s $18.00.
Anyways, Nabin Bhattarai and his band members will be here this Saturday to serenade you all with his popular songs and we hope that you and your friends will attend this extravaganza!!

FYI: minimum wage in MN is $6.15 / hour.

Being from MN, this much I will say about our events, sure there are plenty of high paying jobs for working professionals here and most studnets get instate tuition rate, so on paper it does seem like we are at an advantage $$ wise. However, IMHO most organizers fail to consider the number factor, I bet a lot more folks would show up say if the TIX price was $10 or $12 compare to $18 - $20.

If the price was $10.00 the complain would be why is it not $8.00 for students! The kind of mentality we have among Nepalis the organization can never win. IF they do a free event with food and concerrt the complains would be ... they coul'vd charged couple of bucks [per head then they could've done it better.

Guys know that you are not in Nepal and support our Nepali artists who are touring US to make few dollars!! That's all... Go attend the event and support our daju-bhais and didi-bahinis.

Can't agree more with Hukka Bro. I have been attending most of the Nepali programs organized here in MN and I remember when 1974AD came, the ticket price was about $10 and they were all sold out. In contrast, last year or so, when Harish Mathema and gang visited, the price was set about $20 and the hall was 2/3 empty.
So, I think the organizers should consider audience number too..Would you rather have 1 person paying $18-$20 or 2 people paying $12 each?

lalpari, i appreciate your sentiment about helping our nepali artists daju-bhais and didi-bahinis. If the organizers feel similarly, they should put their money where their mouth is! Why is there the need for cost of accommodation and transportation?? You want us to consider them our daju bhais and didi bahinis, but yet they can't be accommodated in our houses and travel in our vehicles??

Easy to throw out the lame nepali mentality card at us but if mentality do need to be changed, it is all around. Yes, audience need to support their fellow artists and not focus too much on the cost. Artists, need to realize they are more of a daju-bhais didi-bahinis than celebrity and their focus should be more on reaching the greater nepali audience to bring them together and provide them with joy of being nepali and being with other fellow nepalis thru their music/acts etc. Last but not the least, the organizers need to extend their generosity in doing everything within their capacity to make the event more attractable and accessible. As much as we all hate to admit it, cost is probably the biggest factor followed by food when it comes to attraction and access to events of such types.

These are all minimum estimates for 7 people in the NKB band group:

Cost of Venue: $300
Cost of Good Sound/Lighting System: $300
Cost of Lodging for artists: $200 for 2 nights
Cost of travel/transportation: $400 (4 days including gas)
Cost of Food for artists: $420 (4 days, 2 meals)

Total: $1620
This is the basic expense for the artists to do one concert.

Assuming the host organizing makes no profit!
At $10 a ticket, with an attendance of 162 people, the artists make nothing!
At $12 a ticket, with an attendance of 162 people, each artist makes $46.
At $15 a ticket, with an attendance of 162 people, each artist makes $115.
At $20 a ticket, with an attendance of 162 people, each artist makes $231.

So,
After 30 plus hours of driving on a van, days of restless travel, hours of preparation and performance, days of lack of sleep, days of junk foods and off-time meals….man…I must say it’s not even worth to do this tour if the artists can’t make decent money. But these guys do it for you…the fans…and it must be appreciated…..so if you’re a student, broke, homeless or whatever and you can’t come up with 20 bucks but you love to go to the concert, I have couple of suggestions for you…

1)Save some money by not smoking and drinking for a week (if you do)
2)Save some money by not eating out, also is good for your health
3)Work couple of hours overtime (use that young muscle and mind)
4)Pledge local family/friends to sponsor the tickets for you (this is better than asking money and is done in many cities all over US)
5)Make a box and start saving 20 cents each day, you should be able to come up with the cost in 3 months, and continue doing, so you will be able to attend three $20 concerts next year.
6)Form a student group and make food by contributing couple of dollars, generate money and pay for the tickets.

If you have any other good suggestions, please post it here, it will help the students!

So I guess if some kindness & effort was extended, then maybe a reduction in ticket cost....LOL

Why would I pay $20 to go to a concert when I can go to a bar for that amt of money and enjoy few drinks, or go to a movie for 2 or even go to chipotle have a nice barito.

I would rather be willing to pay $20 to a NGO who would do something to a child in Nepal rather than paying $20.

Your calculation is reasonable however, lets look at it this way;
if you charge $20 you see crowd of 162..
but if you charge $10, you might see well over 200. (Trust me there is enough nepali students and young professional in MN so actual number could be way over 200)
If its 10, I would be more willing to go to the concert as I will have more fun there than going to chipotle or movie...

At least I am using my Economics here in Sajha... ;) (my 4 yrs of Education)

Flying....??? I am 100% sure the band members are sick & tired of driving from one state to another. Imagine driving from South East to South to Midwest to West Coast..then again to Midwest then East Coast. That's thousands of miles & countless hours right there. One would be very tired. I think $20 is worth to see them after all their hard work & effort. Remember these guys are not amateur or hobbyist artists. This is their source of income to feed their loving ones. If you think $20 is too much, then don't support them and for god's sake stop whining like a mama's lil boy.
