Hello Mr. Pinki,

Well lets talk about Nepal. You know "Nanglo", I think you know it, coz u r in Nepal right now. In Kathmandu it is called "Nanglo" if you go to most of the hilli areas it is called "Suppo" specially in Gorkha, Tanahun better to say Gandaki besi. Does that mean people of Kathmandu don't know Nepali.

Take another example, in kathmadu there is a bird named "Sarau" may be you know if you like in KTM, we call it "Dangra" and dont tell me we dont know Nepali. People in eastern side speak nepali differently mostly they use words like "yest ho, usto ho" and people in Kathmandu use "Yesto hai, usto hai" don't ask me which is the True Nepali.

You know Dr. Tara Nath Sharma, if you know the difference between British english and American English, you should not forget Dr.Tara Nath Sharma. You know how he writes his last name सर्मा, do you know how it should be, well sure you should know, does that mean Dr. Tana Sharma don't know Nepali.

Find the logic, language and culture are the things that depends upon the region you belong too, and it will be dominated by the environment you live in.

More than that read the article below to know where the English language came from either Britain or some where else, before commenting.

"The history of the English language really started with the arrival of three Germanic tribes who invaded Britain during the 5th century AD. These tribes, the Angles, the Saxons and the Jutes, crossed the North Sea from what today is Denmark and northern Germany. At that time the inhabitants of Britain spoke a Celtic language. But most of the Celtic speakers were pushed west and north by the invaders - mainly into what is now Wales, Scotland and Ireland. The Angles came from Englaland and their language was called Englisc - from which the words England and English are derived."

That's it for today Mr. Pinki

Hope you will do better in IELTS but will definitely score the least on TOEFL.

Good Luck.

Well I do find British  English much more formal and polite. In Britain you almost know which is the high class people and who are lower class from the way they speak. And they are much more respectful (not demeaning american english though). It is just a fact.

I have always found British english more closer to reality. Like they say Nappy , american say Diper. Nappy has more realistic meaning coz once you put nappy, baby feels comfortable and can take Nap. Similarly, British say Ear Silencer........american say Ear Muffler.  Silencer is more appropriate name. American say Bathroom to even toilet. Wonder why. British say loo. American say Gas (again wonder why) british say petrol.

How to be British

I had an epiphany!!

"I writhe in thy rosy snare; for thou hast me mesmerised:

Words find mine tongue snipped: for thou hast me appalled:
Roses bloometh in abundance; for thou hast me agonised:
Thorns wilteth in thy shine: for thou hast me sparred !!"
                                                                                         x____________!!

SKH,
The bounty of your words is far across from the reaches of my meager comprehension, hence, I profusely apologize for lambasting your skills and efficacy of the proper effect your words put on my grey matters. When you referred to my comments on your other thread and one of my erstwhile threads, the few choices of words were derogatory, however, I wish to counter you on that.

Having been born and bred in Nepal, I have honed the skills of much sought after British English in the due course of trials and errors, that spanned a gruelling three years. I have been embarrassed for my poor structure, and I have been much criticized for my verbose composition. But it never dissuaded me from doctoring my vernacular skills to a healthy composite. I strove and thrived, yet, I leave a substantial room for the dubious blunders and omissions. So, I should understand the fact that you have been attempting at the least to differentiate in the linguistic parables and parameters, however, might I suggest you a noble concept of humility and equality. Your words spout venom and hatred, in the contextual stratum of race, religion and beliefs. I implore, you employ rather a statistical as well as benign tone, should you indulge in the cacophony of colloquial exchanges (and in this case, writ). It will thus improve your debatement skills and shall render your adeptness and authority of the matter at hand to its fruition.

I do not hold contempt for American English, but as the adage goes- In Rome, Do as Romans Do. But I clearly hold contempt over the notion that one language is inferior to another, though the oxymoron of the formal or informal language can not be excepted. There is always a good and better part and a bad and worse part in any conceptual entity. We can not disprove or lament over the efficacy and viability of any sustainable incorporation of such ideologies and elements. That would only prove the extent of our shrunken facility of mind and rationale. The joie de vivre is the only true facet of our lives, and the abundance should not be hindered from its due course of augmentation with the unabated employment of lethargic and regressive theories. The sanctity of human civilization will only ebb, thusly rendering our existence to a rudimentary nutshell.

No person is lesser; it is the means and measures that illusion the spectator. The concept of nobility was propounded by the people of higher means, and thus the advent of hierarchy. All the nominal aspects of our present day society were penned by the pen-bearers, and given the sparse as well as abundant division and subdivision of class, as permissible at the time, to their and their own counterparts' subjugated benefits.

SKH, my friend,I do not intend to mock you of your ideologies and beliefs, nor am I attempting to dismiss your words. But to put in simpler words, I am urging you to think, and rationally at that, in order to have your views be presented to the people in an unbiased and more respectable terms.
Pardon my sarcasm, for I revel in it. It is not personal, but a riposte to your gauntly gestures at me and my episodes. Rest assured, I hope you will take something out of what I said. I believe you are a grown up with a very impressive repertoire of educational and vocational skills. Use it to your benefit, and spare us of the usual nips and buds of verbal volley. It only complicates the circumstance, deplorable as it is, we should come together to learn to respect each other and portray so.

PS: And just so that you know, I love British English, but I am comfortable with American English as well. I take it as a dialectal difference, and not the matter of purity or solubility of credibility or the -ties that could go with that notion. Does that not make us ambidextrous multilingual (?) talented pool of eager and able expatriates?

PS2: If you are preparing for TOEFL and IELTS, I suggest you do that in different times. I have not taken any of those, but I assure you, it will only wrench your brain with suggestive and unsavory allusions.

Wah MCMXC. you writing rite super ha. too bad hor i cannot understand wat you talking and writing mah. your english

soo good so i guessing you must be living in America long long time. Also because your english veri good laio i assume you

student in usa first. Now you must have graduate long long time ago ha and scully now working is it. Working working very hard making

many money. Since MCMXC study in USA, now working and so living in America for long time

now english also become like American. Wat i mean is now MCMXC talk and rite like ghora

"white". You careful ha or your hair also become gora.

As for me hor i am still speaking english and writing also can but not in America style lah.

Me speak and write UK english. UK english is number one because UK is Englishman.

English originates from UK. When Englishman went to America long time ago, British English

was used. America English never exist yet.

America english exist only when America become mao badi and chase away British.

Then when America become USA, USA create its own english. For example taxi became cab,

colour became color, tea became coffee, right became left, left became right and so on and on.

And the world suddenly finds itself bombardment with new english words just like Japan

find itself bombarded with Atom bomb. There was no A-bomb then. Now world in dip_sheet_hole because

India, Pakistan, China, Iran, N. Korea also have A-bomb.

So my bottomline is if every country scully starts to invent their own english words, then

wat are you people going to speak or write. so many words, later all confuzing. head goes

boom boom boom. see or not wat i writing about.

sorri hah but this is my english version of nepali.

It's call NepaliEnglish.

tata i better go and study for my IELTS which is International English.

American supporters define International? Now you NepaliAmerican knows

why american are not like by other country laio. Ai yo say most powerful but

no ones like you. Shame same same.

Frm wikipedia: "An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum or chat room, with the intention of provoking other users into an emotional response or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion."

Trolling is a game about identity deception, albeit one that is played without the consent of most of the players. The troll attempts to pass as a legitimate participant, sharing the group's common interests and concerns; the newsgroups members, if they are cognizant of trolls and other identity deceptions, attempt to both distinguish real from trolling postings, and upon judging a poster a troll, make the offending poster leave the group. Their success at the former depends on how well they — and the troll — understand identity cues; their success at the latter depends on whether the troll's enjoyment is sufficiently diminished or outweighed by the costs imposed by the group.

Trolls can be costly in several ways. A troll can disrupt the discussion on a newsgroup, disseminate bad advice, and damage the feeling of trust in the newsgroup community. Furthermore, in a group that has become sensitized to trolling — where the rate of deception is high — many honestly naïve questions may be quickly rejected as trollings. This can be quite off-putting to the new user who upon venturing a first posting is immediately bombarded with angry accusations. Even if the accusation is unfounded, being branded a troll is quite damaging to one's online reputation." (Donath, 1999, p. 45)

Anyways I smell a troll in here. Do you?

mcmcx.

Stop showing off. We get it. You know english. Your lengthy  comment to SKH where you "disclaim" that you are not trying to mock SKH, was quite obnoxious and condescending.  Why would you try to establish your superiority over SKH just becuase he is a little weak in a language that is not even his native? Not knowing english does not make a person stupid.

And besides, SKH has a point. What the Americans claim to be "english" can no longer be called english in it's true sense - the english that is spoken/written by a majority of the rest of the world. It has reached a point where you have to say, I speak American. I live in the USA, but learnt my english in Nepal, and when I go to a subway and ask for some "capsicum" in my sandwich, or  go to the store buy a woolen "muffler", they look at me like I don't know english, in an almost condescending attitude similar to how you responded to SKH. And imagine my frustration for getting marks cut on my final paper for "spelling mistakes" a la neighbour, colour. Heck, even MS Word in my college will give you humiliating sqwiggly line for such spelling "mistakes"

So my point is, when SKH says " I heard Americans do not know English that much as the British or the rest of the world." I think he's right, because they speak American, not English.

when in rome do as the romans do.

thats what we're all doing good friend. And when someone like SKH tries to put US down just because we're following our dream, when he tries to use misguided patriotism to make it seem that we are traitors and what not, when in fact, most of us out here become even more patriotic than we were in Nepal, thats when the sh!t hits the fan.

And ar_es if you haven't spotted already, he's trying very hard to show that he speaks broken english when in fact (judging from his other posts) he's fine. This kind of dementia boils my blood. In my eyes SKH is a troll and his posts hold no weight, no relevance except mockery, which as the adage goes; an eye for an eye, deserves the same.

Dekchidriver,

I am unaware of the preceeding exchanges between SKH and you, nor the history of animosity between you all, but judging this post by a person apparantly looking for feedback on his english improvement and mcmcx's "verbose" response that served no purpose other than to parade his vocabulary skills, I thought SKH deserved some support here. I have to admit, it's quite irritating to see some think they are holier than thou just because they know a few extra words from the dictionary.

The function of any language is to communicate. No matter how good you are with a language, if a person has to look up a dictionary to understand you, it just defeats the whole purpose. All I got out of mcmcx's post was "I am better than you".

Maybe I am wrong.

Ar_es,

No animosity between us. We have crossed paths in other threads. And it hasn't been the least bit pleasant tho.

"The function of any language is to communicate." I couldn't agree more.

I'll let you make up your mind about SKH's motives after reading his other threads: )

Peace.
