So far only the last rites of Bedija Kharel, 20 has been decided upon. Bedija will be cremated here in Minneapolis on Thursday. We are in the process of finalizing the exact time and location. We will update you as soon as those details are finalized. Bijay (Shrestha) dai, Ajib (Shrestha) dai and Krishna visited the hospital in St. James to claim the bodies of Bedija and Nishma. Nishma's family has requested her body to be flown back to Nepal. It appears that Utsav will also will be creameted here. We, along with Padam dai, are working feverishly to make a prompt but dignified arrangements for these young, aspiring students whose lives were tragically cut short. ANMN with the support from Nepalese and our friends in MN and around will do whatever she can to provide the necessary support to the grieving families back home and here to alleviate their gut wrenching pain. Details regarding the funeral service for Bedija will be provided very soon. Hopefully we will see many of you there to share this loss together.

Southwest Minnesota State University is offering grief counseling after three young people from Nepal were killed in a crash in Watonwan County yesterday. The state patrol says the three were passengers in a car that tried to make a U turn from the right shoulder of the road and was Broadsided by another car. Southwest Minnesota state confirms that 19 year old Utshav Basnet and 20 year old Bedija Kharel were current students, while 20 year old Nishma Timilsina was enrolled at the school last spring but was not a current student. SMSU has over 200 international students, with the biggest population coming from Nepal. It's really shocking for all of us, that we can't do anything and now what we can do, is send the body home, because we don't have a proper ceremony here, the least we can do is some fundraising to send the body back home. Three other people involved in the crash are still in the hospital. 17 year old Rachel Thompson of Clarks Grove is in fair condition. 27 year old Jeremy Dorpinghaus of forest city, Iowa, is also listed in fair condition. And, at last report, 82 year old Leroy Sydness of Jackson is listed in good condition. If you would like to donate to help the Nepali students send the bodies of their friends home, you can call SMSU at 1-800-642-0684 and ask to donate to the international student services fund.

We will certainly help from our end. Also like to commend the job that these people are doing for fellow nepaliens, I just wish the Royal Embassy would have shown some concern over this matter. I am sure information on their insurance might have been already looked upon. Hope no other parents see their promising kids part like this.

This is so sad News!!!!! What a heartwrenching News to begin with the New Year 2006 and similary the end of year 2005, with the demise of such young students. First, Shekhar then comes Utshav, Nishma and Bedija. May their soul rest in peace...!!!! What interest me of this entire accident is (besides coincidental), all three who survived seems like US citizens (as their name/last name/story depicts...) and the remaining three who died are our fellow students. I am just wondering, are those who wore seat belts were the only survivors in this accident, because Rachel is a driver, obviously and hopefully wearing seat-belt, and I assume Jeremy must be on the front seat wearing seatbelt. Perhaps, Utshav, Nishma and Bedija on the back seat without any protection. May be I am wrong on this assumption, but I wonder how come all those other people survived but our fellow students. Perhaps, the 82 year old dude must be wearing seat belt along with an ijection of air bag, and similarly it assist other survivors. I still can not get it- how come three young, diligent, aspiring all Nepali students are the only one who perished on that accident. Is this a fate??? So sad.....!!!!! HD

Is it really a Fate???? Or perhaps our fellow students are the least priority ones for air-lifting to hospital!!!! What is this, then again "Fate"????

ppl, dont make it big deal; there are hundreds and probably thousands of nepali people get killed each year in nepal for some reason. i havent seen any condolence or sympathy writing for them. why is it being a big deal for you guys? is this because these ppl lived in US? I really dont see it as a seperate incident rather than a ultimate truth. everybody will die someday including me too. i wish you guys see that too.

ABout other ppl that u are taking about, I don't know too much. If u got a heart or feelings for them , than u should do something else shut your damn ....

We don't need to scold 'notebook'. Everyone is free to expres their opinion. You n' I gave condolence n' he doesn't want. Neither does he need to convince us not give condolence nor do we need to convince him to give it.
