Sujanks,
if 1. Ne7 Bb7 and not Be4
then 2. N e5 ..
3.Qxg7++

what more's previous solution was flawed, I admit.

i think this is the best solutions in 3 moves.

1. Pd7
a. ... Bc6 / Bb7 / Bd5 /Bf3 / Bg2 / Bh1
2. Nd6 (threatening Nf7++) ... (Only Be8 will prevent ++ which is not possible)
3. Nf7++

b. ... Be4 (threatening Bxg6)
2. Qxe4 g6/g7
3. Qd4/d5 ++

sujan, your solution part 1 will be foiled by the following black moves:
bd5
bxe6, which threatens your knight moving into f7, so no checkmate

yeah, so to summarize everyone's input, i guess this is it

1) white: kc8-e7

a) if black: be4
2)q X e4, leads to pg7-g6 (only possible move)
3)qe5 checkmate

b) if black: bishop anywhere except e4:
2)kf5, and no matter what black does,
3)qxg7 mate

haina ta?

` sorry, going back the previous one. i think this is a cleaner-cut solution:

1. White P d7
  Black ...
  2. P d8 becomes queen or rook
    ...it is possible that black bishop at e6(capture pawn) or g6(capture queen)
    3. White Bishop f7 or f6 as appropriate, checkmate

queening the pawn is foiled by
bishop c3
bishop e8
blocks line of sight for the new queen

The latest layout:
The biishop need to be sacrificed

I think King need not move

there are moves in between so it can go up to 6 moves. Because of the white pawn, the white will then have two queens to kill the troubled king, etc but the basic moves are

1. White Bxf7+ - Kxf7
2. Qxd8 - Bxc4
3.Rxc4 - ...
4.Rc7 - ...
5.RxNd7++

the mate is possible in 6 moves but there are too many variables and too many

ways that can happen... just too much to list, however this is my thought..

Let's see, the first move is Bb7, to get control of the c8

Now Black has several options. It can Bxb7 or Bxc4 or Qh1+ or Qb4 to

defend d8. Black can also Nxg3+ thus making White Ke1. Or Black can Qh1,

and if White Ng1, then Black Nxg3, then white can either Ke1 or xg3. This

move can go on and on and on making White's mate in 6 oves impossible.

So, there must be something else White can do to prevent such continuous

checks. How about Ke1. but this could make Black move Pf6. orBf6, and free

a square.

I think we should make a move at a time, and someone give a possible black

move and someone can suggest a white move and so on...

This is my suggestion:

The first move should be Ke1 to prevent any further onlaught of Blacks checks.
If 1. ... Rc8, the mate is in 4 moves.
If 1. ... Qh1+, 2. Kd2 (threatening Rxh1). Blacks Q must leave h1 if want to

stay alive, to h2, 3 or 4. most probably 4 to defend d8.
no matter what, 3. Bb7 (control a6, b7, c8).
if 3. ... Bxb7, 4. Qxb7.
if 4. .... Rb8,
if 5. Qxd7+
if 5. ... Kf8 6. Qxf7++
if 5. ... Kxd7. 6. Rc7++
if 4. .... Rc8. 5 Qxc8++
if 4. ... any move other than Rb8/Rc8 (remember Q@h4 is protecting R@d8)
5.
if 3. ... Nxd6 4. Bxd6
if 4. ..
if 3. ... Bxc4. 4. Rxc4.
if 4. ...

okay can some one continue... my brain is washed out
