I have GRE after a week. My score ( in practice test) is fluctuaiting between 1000 and 1300 with verbal 650-350 and Math:800-550. Do you guys have a concrete idea to increase scores at last hours. Please suggest. I need help seriously.

Thanks

one thing that i would do if i were you is, when i get low scores, i will take a note of the mistakes i make and work on them i.e. identify my weaker areas and practice more on them.

GRE's quantitative section is a piece of cake (literally!), if you're good in high-school mathematics. even if you're not doing good, it will only take few hours of brushing up to make it better. i bet you will get a nostalgic ride practicing those basic algebra/geometry/arithmetics/statistics :D

as for verbal section, reserve 3/4 hours of your morning time to memorize the vocabularies...it's a crude way but there is no other way out at this stage. just learn all those suckers (:P) by heart, there is only 3500 of them :D. the more of them you tend to remember, the more is your probability of doing good in verbal but don't forget to memorize the HIGH FREQUENCY GRE WORDS first off. there must be only 1000 of them.

lastly, don't panic! take a full 8 hours sleep before the exam day. think good and take everything easy. you should be fine :D

g'luck my friend! :-)

LooTe, you seemed a GRE Veteran. BTW, did you get 800/800 on Verbal and 800/800 on math section? Just curious because a Nepalese guy from California scored 1600 perfect score according to the posted information on Test Magic Forum. I think his undergraduate background is Economics and Finance. I wonder are you the same person LooTe??

FYI, I did take the test and could not get 800 but just got 10 pts shy of 800. Verbal was okey because I did cross the 650. Although my score is still valid, my score is no use because I am not going to Graduate School.

The best advice for Narayangarh Suburb, first get the GRE Big book and finish reading antonyms, analogies, sentence completion and reading comprehension and memorize all words that you are not familiar or you don't know meanings. With this strategy, I think you can easily score 500 on verbal, which is good if you are trying to get into the technical school. And then jump into Barron's 3500 word lists.

I am not sure you could get the GRE Big book these days because ETS don't sell this book any more. You can get the barron's 3500 words from the following link. http://www.postech.ac.kr/~gla/gre/
Gre big book words list I think on this website is not complete. Anyway, the link got those words as well. Good luck.

I Think So

hahaha..i think so bro,
no mate! i am no veteran. i am just a regular test taker who, if i may claim, did fairly well in it in the first and only attempt.

my english vocabulary is nowhere near as good as someone who could get a perfect score in verbal, nonetheless, i do believe that a great chunk of success in the test depends upon how one performs on the big day of the exam!...meaning there is some luck factor associated with it as well. :)

not to mention, i do believe that the more one practices, the more is the possibility of getting a good score in gre. contrary to what many may believe, all these graduate school tests are not as hard as they may seem in the beginning and failure to perform well in them, has very little to do with how one is going to perform in his/her graduate studies. graduate school is a different story. :P

all the best :)

I think So thanks.
I have been trying to recite the words but honestly I can't do all. I don't know why some words immediately set in mind while others... I even tried the flash cards and that didn't work too. Can you suggest some way. But I have vey few days in hand to do a miracle.
Thanks.

"not to mention, i do believe that the more one practices, the more is the possibility of getting a good score in gre."

I don't thik it is all that true. For better or worse, you don't drastically improve your scores MUCH by practicing more. You can only improve upto a certain extent. But again, what else could you do? Practice more!!
