KATHMANDU, April 4: As the Ministry of General Administration expedited action against serving government officials who have acquired US Green Card or permanent residency (PR) papers in foreign countries, US ambassador to Nepal Peter W Bodde has said that such cases are not acceptable in his country as well.
It is regarded as unpatriotic and against sovereignty if a serving US official acquires permanent residency of another country and it is regarded as tantamount to breaching the oath of office, the US ambassador reportedly told the minister during a meeting with Minister for General Administration Lal Babu Pandit on Friday.
Minister Pandit informed the ambassador about planned administrative reforms and initiatives he has taken after assuming office.
While sharing administrative practices of his country, Bodde said the US government takes stringent action against any bureaucrats who hold dual nationality.
It took us long time, around 170 years, to bring adminsitrative reforms in the US, the ambassador told the minister at the meeting.
Ambassador Bodde also praised Minister Pandit´s initiative to punish those civil servants who have acquired permanenty residency papers of foreign countries without quitting their government jobs.
During the meeting, the minister said he would do all to make sure that government officials holding dual nationality are punished.
"I expect support from all quarters including the media in this noble endeavor," Minister Pandit told Republica.
