I was watching Hannity and Colmes on Fox News recently. Sean Hannity, in that episode, alluded that if some foreigner says bad about the Bush administration, then it is attack to the entire Americans. I wasn’t really comfortable with his remarks. After few days, I got the same kind of perceptions on ‘sajha’ regarding the Prashant Tamang and Indian idol. I got the feeling that we are trying to promote a person (a foreign national) in the name of nationalism. It is tough for me to discern the statement like, “If you don’t like Prashant, then you are not a Nepali.†Agreed, that he is a good singer; but the fact is that he is in a competition, in his country, in his country’s national language. I also agree that he has cultural roots tied with Nepal, so what? Isn’t that a musical game show?? You may support any candidate that you like, but the attached tag of “nationalism†with it is beyond my comprehension. The irony is that in the middle and upper class of nepali populace, we are not accepting the people of our own very country and own very sentiments( the bigotry starts with saying katta or tapare bahun or jyapu, or bhote or jaad khane jaat or achut or madhisey ). But we are supporting, in a name of nationalism, a person whose uncountable numbers of ancestors lived in a foreign land. I clearly remember “Hrithik kanda†in the name of false nationalism. So,I just wonder why?? I picked the upper middle and middle class, just with presumption that lower class Nepalese don’t have access to internet. Btw. He is in the next round. Good luck to him!

Forget about all the votes he has been getting. That does not count in my eyes. It does not count because in this particular case, people are voting from their hearts but they seldom use their brain. Let me ask you a question. Lets suppose this Idol thing had a completely different format. People can't vote. Participants performances were judged by a very honest, credible group of judges. Now I want to know...do truly believe that Prashant would be standing in a position that he is in now? I highly doubt it. Prashant is still in the show because he is getting votes from people like you who vote for him relentlessly. I admire your admiration for him but you should learn to accept that not everyone is in the same boat.

Who made the judge? Udit naryan would not have been Udit narayan if people didnt liked his songs. PEOPLE ARE THE BEST JUDGE. NOW PEOPLE ARE LIKING PRASANT THEY WILL MAKE PRASHANT A STAR. May be he will become judge in near future who knows. And dont tell judges are honest. When Ankita makes mistakes Javed Akhther says " TUMHARE HAR GUNAHA MAAF". When prashant sings well he tries to find out petty falts. WHEN Anu malik himself said Prashant " you will definitely come to next round and you sang very well". Then why should we be making fuss about voting system. Stop making small excuses and admire the talent of prashant we are seeing.

and oh, the reasons why I think Amit, Emon, Chang, Deepali and Pooja are better singers than him becasue: 1. They are trained voices 2. Their voice quality is better ( I know you'll totally disagree on this one) 3. They have better knowledge about notes and octaves 4. Relatively, all of them have given better performances than Prashant 5. Perhaps they have been more intelligent in choosing the right song than Prashant Though not completely a genuine reason, I noticed Prashant's frailties when he sang Yeh Honsla. Javed Akhter gave him a very constructive advice regarding that. On the whole, Prashant is a very vulnerable singer who needs professional training. If he can tame his voice, he will be good. As for now, may god help him and give him what he deserves. He has made it this far. May be the almighty has something in store for him!

Man, you are missing the whole point. That was an assumption that I offered. The judges don't have to be Udit or Anu Malik or Javed Akhter. It could be anyone. I just wanted to know what you felt about that. I am not making excuses. I am saying outright that there are other people who truly deserved to be in the position where Prashant is in right now. I rest my case!

I have only one line answer for that your detailed reply. People thinks Chang, Deepali and Pooja are sh*t singers in front of prashant. Thats what matters. All the other explanations are entirely your own view. Majority have voted.

Friends ! I am tired of reading about PRASHANT is good singer, have a good melidious voice, was in top four due to his regional votes etc etc. I would like to give you some of the reasons why PRASHANT deserves to be in top 4. 1. From the very beginning to the start of PIANO round, who choosed him. Thats from Judges. I think noone argue on this. So up to this extent everyone supports he is good enough. 2. From PIANo round, I think everyone is watching the show and I suppose everyone noticed he never got the worse comment compared to others. I found sometime judges comments is very good for him and sometimes average. In everyshow there are two to three contestants has worse comment then him. But the fact is that the person who has worse comment got more votes and found to be stayed in the show and the person who got best comments was voted out. Why the person of worst comment saved everytime. So there is more factors playing on this show for others then in prashant. Just for EMON in last show, he got worst comment as copying of SONU, not perfect etc and Chang got the best comment but the result is as with you now. 3. If we count the regional voters, then nepalese is very much less than bengali for EMON, bihari for ANKITA, the northeastern people for AMIT etc. Except people in Darjeeling, Skim all nepalese went there for working, who is very very poor people in their backgournds in Nepal, I don't beleive they vote for Prashant or any other contestants. Recently I heard that the mobile network in Darjeeling and skkim is the poorest and just installed some years back which doesn't have much capacity to transfer big number sms in the same time. Beside that one sms cost Rs 3, I don't believe the average people sends 100s of sms everyweek with his own money. The people who has the capacity to send 1000s of sms has not time to react on idol things. With this reasons I don't believe he is in top 4 due to ethinic votes, I strongly feel he deserves, he has own style of singing at the time others are found to be copying others. And I do beleive he will win this title. GOOD DAY FOR ALL.

Fox news is only for the far far right wings especially Hannity and O'realy. There are are very few minorities who don't like foreigners. Fox news never tells the truth. That news is only for cowboys and religious right wings who don't read newspaper and say GOD 24/7. If people watch Hannity and O'realy, non crazy people will soon be crazy. So, I don't get the pt why maverick is drawing the similarities between Hannity and Prashant? Almost all the people are proud of Parashant's achievements except some handfull people. Why don't Maverick and lurizrolando do something great for all the nepalese, we all(nepalese)people will cheer you too. Don't pull the legs of successful person who is making proud of all nepalese and Indian sepoys. Do something great in the name of nepali then complain. Otherwise go and cheer for your fav. contestants in their's message. They won't hear your voice here. You guys are wasting time in Prashant's supporters site. Go soon before they will be voted out.

I was thinking about letting other bloggers decide on the topic and not to post any further. But, thanks to MTA, he/she dragged me in. First of all, this thread wasn't really about whether you should support or not support Prashant Tamang. I don't think I would say a single word for anyone who would say I'll vote for him for any or all reasons. So MTA, you can kindly keep your words like ' u can go cheer for whoever you want' with yourself. I'd cheer for anyone who would sing well. That's entirely my wish and I don't think you could say anything either. The typical problem with the long thread is that, most of the bloggers digressed with the original topic and in this context, I realized after few comments we are actually discussing about contestants. My purpose neither was to discuss the singing abilities nor was to garner any accolades for my favorite contestant. My question was to all of them who are actually finding a national hero from a foreign land and in doing so; he/she is using racist comment to fellow countrymen of that very person whom they are supporting along with the Nepalese who can’t speak Nepali properly. The funniest part was, bloggers in this thread like 'confusion' and one more asked me if I would support Nepali team or not. The reason they cited was my non-supportive language towards Prashant. First it is my choice and second he is from ‘Darjeeling’, not ‘Dadheldhura’ or ‘Darchula’. Ok let say, somebody don't support Prashant. So, what?? His or her own choice. Why are all those comments alluding that not supporting Prashant is something like not supporting the sovereignty of Nepal? The notion of asking me of my support, towards my country because I don’t use a supportive language to a particular contestant is totally hysterical and that very attitude made me start this thread. This kind of public hysteria could well beget a communal riot. The possible reason could be the language in this case. A person of Nepal who don't speak Nepali may already feel ostracized not being able to speak Nepali and as he sees a foreigner getting this unprecedented support. Then, due to the very nature of emotional convulsion, it could well be aggravated into public rage. Agreed, that’s a far sighted thought, but in this political scenario of Pahade vs Madhyases or Janjati bhasa vs Khas/Pali bhasa, anything is possible. I don’t care, if Mta or confusion or Krishnakale, or xyz or abc support any contestant of their choice for what ever reasons possible. But when you support, you should care about not to offend people who are not binded by your opinion. Enough said and done guys. From all those comments and support, I think, we should recommend him for GORKHA DAKSHIN BAHU. What do you guys think?? Btw, one blogger asked me to be popular, I wonder when would I get Gorkha dakshin Bahu??

Well.... I watched a brief interview of Morgan Freeman, in some INDEPENDENT CHANNEL, some time ago. He was asked how he felt about celebrating Black History Month and his Black heritage. With a faint smile, he said. We should stop having Black History Month. Just having a month dedicating for Black does not mean that you are respecting that group or praising its heroes and heritage. He also asked the interviewer, why there is no any Whit History Month in a calender? If you want to respect us, stop talking about it, Morgan said with a stoic face. It is to you-Maverick.

Bathroom Coffee, Kinda agree with you, making mountain out of mole. Indeed a Nepali tradition. No wonder, we had operation ‘kilosera’, ‘hrithik kanda’ and ‘Gaur kanda’. You can keep laughing, enjoying the sugary veneer or in your case probably couple packs of splenda in your coffee and praising the picturesque landscape within your horizon. Beyond that, who cares, isn't it?

Virtual Reality, I wonder if there is such thing called ‘INDEPENDENT CHANNEL’ I really had to dig within your analogy, to understand how it is related with the original post. But sorry, I flunked. But guess what, I have a guess! Since you gave me question in analogy so I am obliged to answer you in analogy. Once, I was with one of my crack head, pot busting friend; while he was sober. Another friend, little older than us, came asked him if he really cares about what is going on with his life. He just replied in one line. He said,†close your eyes and keep on crackingâ€. I guess, you should back after chilim;)

Maverick is trying to associate this case with Nepal's Madhesi community. Its good to raise your voice for Madhesh bro. But it is not very wise to associate everything with the Madhesi cause. Nepal and Nepalis must uplift and promote Madhesis but this should be independent of the goodwill Nepalis are showing at Prashant. You are wrongly trying to pick an agenda for Madhesh in the name of Prashant. Prashant has very little significance compared to your big agenda.

There is always the great Nepalese irony of misplaced patriotism. The same people who love Prashant, hate india. These same people possibly hate Udit Narayan Jha. These same people probably have a love hate relationship with Tenzing Norgay - on one hand they love the fact that a Nepali was one of the first two on mt. Everest, and on other hand they hate the fact that he became Indian later on. Intelligent people, it's time to move on with such stereotyping and misplaced nationalism. In today's global economy everyone and everything is co-related and if you believe in five hundred year old touchable untouchable systems then you're no far less behind to fight about someone's nationality. If you believe in democracy then let the damn person decide which country he wants to be citizen of! and respect and appreciate him for his talents and not for this nationality.

Thanks Maverick for pondering upon my post.... Just being IRONICAL while stating an interview of Mr. Freeman in an Independent Channel. I am not into FOX and ABC channels that much. I think the interview was in Channel Thirteen/ PBS Channel. I don't know about the authenticit of those TV Channels and their affiliations, but who cares!!! I am trying to make a MMM- Mole-Back Mountain Monologue of myself. Most of the time, what happens is, the more you talk with the person, the more you see through them. I always wonder those people who talk less. By the way, Birds of Feather Flock Together, right??? Analogy- forget about it!!! I am glad that I made you think twice with the analogy. Pheri Vaytaula!!!!

I see correlation between Saroj's last sentence and Maverick's notion. I like Maverick's position in this case. Being a Nepali naitonalist doesnt mean that he must support prashant.
